Chapter 9 summary of "Tarzan of the Apes"

In this chapter Edgar Rice Burroughs writes about when Tarzan meets an ebony ape. The chapter starts off with how Tarzan's life has been. After the author tells about Tarzan's life he starts the adventure of the ebony man. Tarzan is in the cabin as usual studying the books when he hears the loud shrill of Kala. Kala dies very quickly after she is hit by the poisonous arrow that had hit her. What he doesn't know is that Kala has been killed by a black man but his tribe tells him it was a black ape. He declares revenge on this ebony warrior.

As he glides through the trees following the elephant trails he makes sure he has his hunting knife and his long rope. He finally reaches the ebony warrior and notices he is an archer. Tarzan sees the archer pull back the arrow and shoot it at Horta the boar. He doesn't kill the boar with the first shoot but does kill it with the second. The archer cooks the boar right after he kills it. Tarzan eats the reminisce of the boar after the archer had went away. He followed the archer all day long till he went to bed.

After the archer had went to bed Tarzan swoops in and takes his bows and arrows. After the archer wakes up he notices his things have been taken. He looks all around the vicinity of the tree that he had slept around. As he looks around he becomes scared and runs towards the huts that he had originally came from called Mbonga. Tarzan follows him all the way to the Mbonga and finally throws his rope around the archer's neck. Tarzan hangs the archer and thinks about if he should eat him or not. Tarzan thinks that he would be a cannibal and decides not to eat him.
