Chapter 2 summary of "Tarzan Of The Apes"

In this chapter Edgar Rice Burroughs continues the altercation between the crew members and the officers aboard the Fuwalda. As John Clayton went up to the deck he hears a shot and he knows it is the crew members fighting the captain and officers. As the officers retaliate the crew fires more bullets at them. Most of the officers were killed or wounded within the first few shots but only few crew members were killed or wounded. After the Captain was killed the leader of the crew, Black Michael, tells Lord Greystoke and Alice that they will have to leave the boat and be placed on a close but peaceful island.

When they arrive at an appropriate island them and their items are taken to the island. When they get to the island, John Clayton swiftly makes a room in the trees where they will sleep. As they sleep Alice looks out into the woods and sees a panther running away from something out further out in the trees;she thinks she sees the silhouette of a human like figure. As the night proceeds they are startled by the sounds of animals ruffling through the leaves and bushes.

Chapter 1 summary of "Tarzan Of The Apes"

In this chapter Edgar Rice Burroughs writes about how John Clayton, Lord Greystoke and his wife Alice are on a voyage on the vessel named the Fuwalda. As their voyage moves on, the crew of Fuwalda get angry at the officers and the captain of the boat. An old man from the crew tells Lord Greystone about the anger which is due to the way the officers treat the crew and what they might do to the officers. In addition to the conflict between the crew members and the officers, the crew breaches into John Clayton and Alice's cabin and steal their guns and ammunition. They were warned to stay out of the altercation between the officers and the crew; also not to report anything about the stealing of their guns and about the old man telling them about the angry crew members to the officers and the captain.
