Chapter 8 summary of "Tarzan of the Apes"

In this chapter Edgar Rice Burroughs writes about the day after Tarzan kills Tublat. On this day the tribe is going back towards the coast. As they go through the trees Tarzan spots the lioness Sabor trotting through the same area and throws a pineapple at her. Sabor stops and looks up at Tarzan and looks at him with hatred and anger, Tarzan does the same back and Sabor runs back into the thick jungle. As the tribe continues going to the coast Tarzan can only think of how he will slay Sabor and wear her amazing fur as clothes for him.

The following few days the jungle was peaceful but at midnight there was a fierce storm approaching the coast where the tribe lives at. The tribe huddles together as the trees are whipped around by the tornado. The storm stays at the coast for hours not getting weaker. But when the storm ends the jungle becomes peaceful and beautiful. The tribe stays near the cabin for awhile and Tarzan stays in the cabin most of the time studying. But when they do journey out beyond the vicinity of the cabin Tarzan keeps his rope with him at all times.

He had spotted a boar and quickly threw the rope at it. As Tarzan tried to tighten the rope the boar pulled the rope and made Tarzan fall but Tarzan was very quick and jumped back to a low hanging branch but he had lost his rope. It took Tarzan many days to make a new rope but when he made it he hid in the trees waiting for Sabor. He finally spots her and throws his rope at her. He snatches her, his first try but she runs away. Tarzan makes sure he doesn't lose his rope this time. He had securely tied the end of the rope to the tree he was one but he realizes that it was going to be hard to pull the lioness to him. She sees that Tarzan was at the end of the rope so she charged but missed him. She chewed at the rope and broke it and was free. Tarzan glides through the trees back to his tribe and tells them about his experiences.
