Chapter 3 summary of "Tarzan Of The Apes"

In this chapter Edgar Rice Burroughs continues telling the story of Lord and Lady Greystoke in the island. This chapter starts off when they wake up after their first night at the island. That day John built a cabin out of the resources he could find at the island or by what they already had. As the book progresses John is adding to the cabin; as he looks for materials he hears a shriek in the forest. Soon he sees animals fleeing from something further in the woods. That thing is an ape and it is coming fast right between the cabin and John. John runs to the cabin to warn Alice to get the cabin closed but she comes out with a gun and shots the ape. The ape regains his feet for a few more steps but as John nears the ape, the ape falls down to the sand and dies. With this happening it overwhelms Alice and makes her unstable but she is able to have her baby boy. A year goes by and Alice is very ill and she dies on her babies birthday. John becomes depressed after her death but over comes it.
