Chapter 12 summary of "Tarzan of the Apes"

In this chapter Edgar Rice Burroughs writes about how one of his tribesmen questions Tarzan's authority as being the king named Tarkoz. Tarzan takes his tribe to the village of Mbonga. He ended up taking them back to the coast and the cabin. He spent even more time in the cabin making the tribe suffer because he isn't there to solve the problems. He believes that the apes of his tribe cannot understand his high intellect; he gets tired of being the king of the apes. He thinks that if Kala had lived then he would care more of the tribe but since she has died no ape likes him. Thus causing Tarkoz to want to fight him even more.

Tarkoz had deviated a plan which he thought would be able to get Tarzan to come to him. Tarkoz had grabbed an old female ape by the hair. She shrieked a thunderous shriek and the tribe glided through the trees towards the sound. They fought with only their hands; Tarzan's knife had been on the other side of the area they were fighting at. Tarzan believes this is as hard as the battle he had had with the king gorilla. As they fought Tarzan put Tarkoz in the half nelson and the full nelson. He asked if Tarkoz ka-goda which means do you surrender? Tarkoz gave up and Tarzan says that he is the strongest of them all but he is not an ape and that he is not their king anymore. Tarzan takes his first step towards the cabin to devote his life to studying.
