Chapter 17 summary of "Tarzan of the Apes"

In this chapter Edgar Rice Burroughs writes about the habitation of the cabin. Since the entire group had been reunited they had first wanted to clean the cabin and make it habitable. They went through the man's items first and noticed that it was John Clayton and uncle of the Clayton living now. They buried John and Alice Clayton's body with Kala's baby beside the cabin. Tarzan had watched the sad ceremony but most of all Jane's face. The boat that had been Jane and Clayton's had started to leave the harbor. Tarzan had went to the tip of the harbor to watch it go, but it had turned around and dropped the treasure that had been  on the boat and dug a hole to bury it there until they come back. The crew that was digging had killed Snipes' who was the captain of the boat and buried him in the hole. They left and Tarzan dug the treasure back up and pulled inwards to the amphitheater where the dum-dum might be held. Tarzan went back to the cabin and peered in the window with Jane in it and he looked at her in awe at her beauty and took the manuscript that she had been writing in before she went to sleep.
