His favorite book to learn from was a dictionary because it had so many words and they were in alphabetical order too. As the tribe moves around the jungle Tarzan sometimes isn't able to read but he writes on pieces of bark from trees with his hunting knife. As the tribe moves around they have ceremonial killings.

These ceremonial killings are a very horrid thing to see but to the apes it is a great deed. All the man apes hit and punch the dead gorilla making it into a bloody pulp. After Kerchak roars they all ran to eat of the gorilla. Tarzan sneaks in between all of the great apes and cuts himself a forearm of the gorilla. Tublat his ape father sees Tarzan with this and charges after Tarzan but Tarzan is to quick and jumps into a tall tree where Tublat cannot reach him.

Kala, Tarzan's mother runs to protect Tarzan from Tublat but Tublat sees her running and chases after her. Tarzan jumps from his stand in the tree and attacks Tublat because he dislikes his ape father very much and he loves Kala. Tarzan strikes Tublat with his hunting knife with several blows to his body Tublat tumbles to the ground dead. Tarzan screams out "I am Tarzan, I am a great killer.
