Chapter 14 summary of "Tarzan of the Apes"

In this chapter Edgar Rice Burroughs continues to write about how Tarzan is following Clayton. Right before he left he thought of the white woman and how beautiful she had looked. Then Tarzan raced off towards Clayton and finally reached him. As he was following Clayton he noticed Sheeta the leopard. He couldn't believe that the English man did not notice her.

Sheeta did not attack because Clayton hadn't noticed her cry of attack and he didn't cry back. Later on Tarzan notices that Clayton is going towards the village of Mbonga. While Clayton is walking Tarzan notices that Numa the lion was even stalking him now. Then Numa sprang at Clayton but Tarzan had jumped out of the tree and onto the lion's back. He stabbed Numa several times. Tarzan did his terrible cry of victory and Clayton tried to talk to him but Tarzan could not speak, therefore Clayton thought that this was not Tarzan because Tarzan knew English. Tarzan points back towards the cabin and Clayton thinks that he is being held as a prisoner. As they were walking back they heard a firearm go off and he knew that it was the white woman.

Back at the cabin Miss Jane Porter was in the cabin when a lion came to the cabin wanting in. She had shot at Sabor but had not killed him. It took him several tries to get his head in the very old wood where the window is. Tarzan thought of leaving Clayton and going to the cabin to rescue Jane but he grabbed Clayton and swooped through the trees, getting to the cabin as fast as he possibly could.
