Chapter 18 summary of "Tarzan of the Apes"

In this chapter Edgar Rice Burroughs writes about how Tarzan reads Jane's diary type book. He realizes that he isn't aware of the way she writes and gets delirious but finally gets to a part where he can read. After he read the entry he wrote "I AM TARZAN." That day he had put the diary back where it was when he had took it, but he had taken it for two days making Jane ponder about Tarzan. Clayton had calmed her down and told her that Tarzan is friendly because he has hunted many animals for them and gave the carcasses to them. One day the entire group had scattered the jungle to find food. As Tarzan became impatient of Jane not coming back he went into the cabin and wrote a letter telling her of his love for her. Right when he finished the letter he heard a loud shriek and instantly he ran as fast as a cheetah to the area where the scream was at. Clayton and the other men had heard the scream to and they ran back to the cabin to see if they two women were in there. As their fears where true they ran into the jungle and found Esmeralda. They went back to the cabin to get sleep and then the next day they Clayton and Jane's dad went to go find Jane.
